From “I Want Fiber!” to “You’re Connected!”: How Empire Fiber Internet Brings Service to Your Neighborhood

Bringing fiber internet to a new community takes planning, coordination, and construction. Before service is ready, you may see utility markings, equipment, and crews working in your neighborhood. Here’s how we deliver fast, reliable fiber service and what you can expect along the way.

Fiber construction happens in stages. You may see different crews at different times, and there may be pauses between phases. That is a normal part of the process. Each step brings your neighborhood closer to Empire Fiber Internet’s 100% fiber network, built to deliver fast, reliable internet directly to your home.

1. Planning and Design

Before construction begins, we work with local municipalities and utility providers to secure the necessary permits and identify existing underground utilities. You may notice temporary paint or flags in your neighborhood showing crews where those utilities are located. Please leave them in place so crews can complete their work safely.

2. Building the Neighborhood Network

Crews build the neighborhood network using underground pathways, utility poles, or a combination of both. Depending on the design, you may see boring equipment, work vehicles, temporary access points, or crews working near roads and within public rights of way.

We do our best to keep disruption to a minimum. If construction affects grass or nearby areas, restoration takes place after that part of the work is complete and conditions allow. Weather, permits, utility coordination, and conditions in the field can affect the schedule. We will share updates as important milestones are reached, including when addresses are ready to order service.

3. Service Becomes Available

Once neighborhood construction is complete, service may become available in phases. That means one address could be ready before another nearby. Check your address online for the latest availability. When your home is ready, you can choose a plan, place your order and schedule your installation.

4. Connecting Fiber to Your Home

After you order service, we prepare the connection from the neighborhood network to your home. Depending on your property and the network design, the fiber line may be installed underground or run from a utility pole. This work will happen before your appointment inside the home, so everything is ready for the technician.

5. Installation Day: You’re Connected

On installation day, a technician brings the fiber connection into your home, installs the equipment, and sets up your Wi-Fi service. An adult should be present, and the technician will need access to the location in your home to set up the router and ONT/modem. Once everything is working, you are ready to stream, game, work, and browse with Empire Fiber Internet.

From the first utility markings to the final installation, every step brings your neighborhood closer to fast, reliable fiber internet. Timelines vary by project size, weather, permits, utility coordination, and local conditions, so seeing construction does not always mean service is ready right away.
