Outside Plant Engineering Permitting & Record Assistant

Job Summary: Assist with daily tasks of electric and communication make ready. Liaison between electric companies, make ready contractors and both in-house and design engineers. Follow through process of permit application and final permitting. Work hand in hand with territory engineer to process and complete electric and other communication pole applications. Bidding and issuing purchase orders via sitetracker program to award make ready packages. Assist engineers with backlog of pending pole applications and highway permits. Help troubleshoot make ready packages with design issues, rotted pole, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in managing outside plant projects from the planning and completion of make ready including both electrical and communication lines.
• Responsible for properly permitting construction projects and for maintaining maintenance permits in the various municipalities that Empire operates in.
• Bid work to make ready contractors, complete comparison charts to assist in determining the best contractor for each make ready permit. Negotiate cost of the make ready work.
• Performs other duties as necessary.

• Work with sitetracker for permit tracking keeping records up to date.
• Previous training experience. Strong interpersonal communications skills. Ability to work with Mapping system, Google Earth, Excel, and Email.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License

Education and Experience:

• Knowledgeable in outside plant engineering practices and the telecommunications industry.
• A two-year associates degree and five or more years of industry experience with a minimum of two years in telephony preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
